Transitioning into Kindergarten

1. Preschool teachers share students’ strengths and needs with kindergarten teachers at the beginning of the school year as needed.

2. Parent Educators work with families and accompany the families to Kindergarten Pre-Registration upon request.

3. Ask parents to clarify where their child will be going to kindergarten in case this has changed.

4. Preschool and Kindergarten teachers attend annual review meetings for students with IEP’s.

5. Inform parents of Kindergarten Nights that are held within the district.

6. End of the year picnic to mark the transition from Preschool to Kindergarten.

7. Parent/Teacher conferences are held at the end of the school year to update parents on their child’s progress and share Kindergarten expectations.

8. Preschool teachers share ideas for summer activities to continue student learning.

9. Encourage parents to walk or drive by their child’s new school so that the preschooler can become comfortable with the new surroundings.
